Description

The End of the Black and White era is a slogan summarising an approach that seeks to go beyond criteria based on simplistic contradictions. Besides works that are considered high quality from today’s point of view, the new permanent exhibition includes a whole mosaic of different approaches of the era in more than three hundred sixty works from the collection spanning eight decades. In a kaleidoscopic development, it tries to emphasize the space in between the basic polarities of the art of those times: official and unofficial, abstract and figurative, formal and socially engaged. The presentation does not focus only on the aesthetic function of art, but on the artwork as testimony of the times. Recognized canonical works are exhibited alongside artists who were then marginal and excluded, or mediocre by today’s standards but often successful in their time.
